Questions and answers on cleaning of private houses and cottages

01 How to clean my apartment quickly?

Do you have absolutely no time to tidy up your apartment for guests? Don't worry! If you allocate your energies correctly, you'll be able to accomplish this task in about five minutes.

If you suddenly have to hastily clean the apartment, every hostess should have a certain algorithm of actions honed. By following it, you can achieve your goal fairly quickly.

    Take care of the essentials

The key to "hastily" cleaning is to prioritize the most basic and least fiddly chores, one by one.

To get started, do the following:

    - wash the dishes;

    - sweep or mop the floors;

    - make the bed.

    Your home now seems cleaner.

Wipe off the dust thoroughly. Dust on furniture and other surfaces, on picture frames on shelves, is visible to your guests and can characterize you as a not-so-good hostess. That being said, wiping dust should be one of the top tasks on your to-do list.

Instead of the good old granny cloth, it is better to use a special, microfiber cloth. Its specially interwoven fibers are excellent for quickly capturing and removing dirt, dust, germs, grease and other nasties. In addition, if, to clean a dirty surface, it is necessary to use additional detergents, then with a microfiber cloth their consumption will be significantly reduced (household women on a note).
Very often, the most convenient option for wiping dust can be the use of disposable wipes.

    Put away ten things

It takes quite a lot of time to put a room in perfect order. Better yet, take a look around and think about what ten things you can put in places. Yeah, it's only ten! Maybe ten unwanted pieces of paper are asking to go in the trash? Or are there ten things that belong in a closet? Even this will give your apartment a more manicured look.
Why ten? Because ten is a concrete number, just a psychological ploy: it's not that much. You only need to do ten things: make the bed, send your spouse's pants to the closet, fold and put away your sweater... The room is much cleaner right before your eyes!
Start by laying out the most noticeable items. If there are still a couple minutes left before guests arrive, put ten more things in place, etc. If you're out of time, don't worry: you've already worked hard.

    Clean up the bathroom

Don't forget the bathroom, make sure it's tidy. Usually one of the guests will certainly need to use the bathroom. So if you don't want to be embarrassed by the mess, clean this place up too.
You don't have to do a general cleanup: just keep a few things in mind. You can compile a list of them on your own. Но он должен выглядеть примерно таким образом:
But it should look something like this:
    - make sure that soap, clean towels and toilet paper are available;
    - If necessary, use an air freshener.

Collect and hide the items that you didn't have time to put away

When guests are already knocking on the door and you no longer have a chance to put anything else away, take one last look around, clean up anything that is even slightly out of place. Cover the doors in rooms you haven't been able to clean, make sure closet doors are closed. Find a large laundry basket and gather all of your unwanted items into it. Shoes and clothes, toys and books, newspapers and dishes - put everything in there and hide it away, you can sort it out later when the guests leave.
These simple rules will help you get your apartment looking its best in a very short time. I would like to point out that by keeping your home clean and organized, it will be much easier for you to clean up when guests arrive.

02 Extermination of mold and mildew

Regardless of the frequency and quality of cleaning, dark mold stains can appear on the walls and ceiling of the apartment. Regardless of the frequency and quality of cleaning, dark mold stains can appear on the walls and ceiling of the apartment. But much more seriously, it is often the cause of various dangerous diseases. These include bronchial asthma, chronic rhinitis, candida, mycoses, headaches, burning eyes, chronic malaise and fatigue, to name a few.

Allergy sufferers should be especially wary of fungi and mold, as they are the ones most susceptible to such ailments and may require serious treatment later on. In addition, mold releases harmful toxins, which even in a healthy person can cause allergic reactions.

Most often, the first foci appear and develop in the bathroom, and over time, the infected air carries microspores to other rooms of the apartment. Thus, dangerous and harmful microspores can form not only pockets of mold on surfaces, but also penetrate deep under wallpaper and tile.

Undoubtedly, the bathroom is the most favorite place for mold in an apartment. And there are objective reasons for that. After all, it is in the bathroom created ideal conditions for its existence, namely: insufficient air ventilation, a very high level of humidity, lack of light and sunlight, and sometimes poor quality treatment of walls during repair with special preparations or no treatment at all, cast iron water pipes that collect abundant condensation.

Unfortunately, you can't get rid of bathroom mold once and for all by simply washing it off with anti-fungal cleaners as advertised. To begin with, it is necessary to eliminate all the causes of its occurrence and development. Therefore, it is best to start fighting fungus already at the first signs of its appearance. After all, if you do not start the fight in time, the process of getting rid of it can take not one year.

To begin with, a ventilation window should be installed in the bathroom, if it is certainly not present. If necessary, the vent should be cleaned. С задачей проветривания хорошо справляется вентилятор, установленный в вентиляционный канал. As a rule, such a fan is turned on at the same time as the light, so the ventilation will be quite regular. However, it should be remembered that such a fan should work only when the windows are tightly closed, otherwise all the air will go into the rooms.

By the way, today there are also doors with special holes for air circulation. It is not unreasonable to replace old cast iron pipes with plastic ones, which do not collect condensation practically. Naturally, leaky faucets need to be repaired. If your bathroom does not have a towel warmer, it is mandatory to install one. Bathroom walls are often the cold exterior walls of a home, in which case they need to be insulated. And if the apartment is on the top floor, it is not unreasonable to insulate the ceiling.

Once all possible causes of mold have been eliminated, you can move on to removing the mold itself. The ideal option, of course, is considered in this case the repair of the bathroom with a complete replacement of tile tiles, painting with drying the walls with a construction hair dryer and special treatment. However, not everyone can afford it right away, and mold remediation is still necessary. Fortunately, today there are tons of tools and ways to do this, both traditional and innovative.

Among the simplest remedies for mold removal, a 10 percent solution of hydrochloric acid or ordinary vinegar is widely used. Having treated the surface affected by fungus with them, it is necessary to hold until completely dry and only then to treat with a detergent, which contains chlorine. The disadvantage of this method of removing fungus is that it destroys it only in the initial stages. When mold has already grown significantly, it is still more effective to use modern antifungicidal and antiseptic chemicals. To be more confident that all spores have been removed, the manufacturers of such preparations recommend treating not only the visible centers of fungus, but also all other surfaces that may also be infected. In any case, it is necessary to work with such chemicals, observing the rules of personal protection and safety, i.e. use a respirator and gloves.

In addition to chemical controls, drying out the room is a very effective method. In addition to a construction hair dryer, soffits for this purpose is quite suitable and an ordinary heat fan.

If mold appeared on the ceiling or other hard-to-reach places, and it is difficult to cope with it yourself, you can call for the help of professionals who will use special equipment to carry out the necessary sanitation and ionization of the air, taking into account all safety requirements.

03 How to care for different types of wallpaper

Wall decoration plays an important role in creating an interior. Sometimes they are painted with paint, but more often wallpaper is still used. The huge selection provides an opportunity to realize the conceived idea. However, not everyone understands the types of wallpaper, and after all, the convenience of maintenance depends on the type chosen. The optimal option is to order cleaning services, but if not - below we give a few ways to clean wallpaper.

Paper wallpaper is almost impossible to clean. They should not be rubbed or washed intensively - only dusted off with a special broom. You can get rid of small dirt with a regular eraser. In doing so, there is a chance of erasing the top layer along with the pattern. Greasy stains should be covered with a cloth and ironed with a not very hot iron.

Fleece and vinyl wallpaper are resistant to wet cleaning. The material from which they are made can be easily cleaned with non-aggressive detergents such as dishwashing liquid. This kind of wallpaper is great for a kitchen or hallway.

Fabric wallpaper is quite finicky. Just like paper ones, they do not tolerate moisture - this is fraught with swelling and even sagging of the fabric. Cleaning these wallpapers is best handled with a vacuum cleaner running on minimum power or a damp cloth made of polypropylene, viscose and other easy-slip materials.

At the moment, they produce fabric wallpaper with a Teflon coating that does not require cleaning at all.

Velour wallpaper easily accumulates dust and odor quickly, so it should be cleaned regularly with a vacuum cleaner. unlike other fabric wallpapers, you cannot use wet wipes with them.

Natural wallpaper is usually impregnated with a special dust repellent. If the wallpaper has a lacquer coating, it should be wiped with a damp cloth or dusted with a broom.

Painted wallpaper should be cleaned following the recommendations for the paint used. Cleaning agents can be used to clean resistant paint, but water-based paint should be wiped with a damp cloth.

When washing wallpaper, you should move from the ceiling to the floor, and after wet cleaning, dry it with a paper towel or cotton cloth.

Glue stains moistened with water can be easily removed with a napkin.

Ink stains left by children can be removed with potassium permanganate, vinegar or a mixture of citric and oxalic acids.

Fresh grease stains can be removed by applying a piece of white bread. A napkin soaked in gasoline will also work.

Do not use cleaning products that contain solvents. It is better to test any product on a small area of wallpaper to check the reaction.

04 How to get rid of dust at home?

Dust in the house is formed from particles of dead human skin, animal hair and as a result of the natural decomposition of materials found in the apartment, such as carpets, rugs, wallpaper, etc. Dust can also enter the apartment from the street through windows or doors. In places where air flows are calm, dust settles on surfaces, and in places where air circulation is active, dust is constantly in motion. Unfortunately, even after thorough cleaning it is impossible to completely get rid of dust, but there are many ways that can help reduce the amount of dust in the house. Let's look at some of them.

    Ways to deal with dust

    Dust control products

For wet cleaning you will definitely need rags. These can be special rags and sponges or pieces of old clothes. It is preferable to use a cotton cloth, as such a cloth will not scratch the surface and will absorb moisture well. You can also use wet wipes, which can not only clean the surface of dust, but also disinfect it.

To remove dust from large surfaces, you will need a mop and a vacuum cleaner. Rubber gloves moistened with water will help remove dust and animal hair from the upholstery of the sofa. The sticky roller is great for removing animal hair on clothes and will also effectively clean dust from paper items.

    Carpet cleaning

Carpets and floor coverings should be vacuumed at least once a week and beaten 2-3 times a year. Most vacuum cleaners suck up mites living in the dust, but immediately blow them back out through a special hole. People who are allergic to dust should purchase a special filter that will protect against dust mites. Another option for dealing with dust is using a washing vacuum cleaner. It has an aqua filter that allows you to store dust inside the vacuum cleaner, and it is also capable of purifying the air.

    Timely change of bed linen

Bed linen is a large dust collector. Flakes of dead skin, animal hair and other particles accumulate on it, which begin to actively move around the apartment the moment you sit down or lie down on the bed. Therefore, it is very important to change bed linen once every 1-2 weeks. It is advisable to wash clothes at a temperature of 60 degrees, this will destroy dust mites. Pillows and blankets must be knocked out or shaken when changing linen.

    Cleaning closets

The closet is the place where dust accumulates in large quantities. Dust from clothes and linen constantly circulates in the closet due to the air currents generated by the opening and closing of the closet doors. To make cleaning effective and easy, you should properly keep things in the closet. Seasonal outerwear and those clothes that you rarely wear (or don’t wear at all) can be stored in special clothing covers. Thus, during cleaning you only need to wipe the dust off the clothing covers, and not do a thorough wet cleaning of each item. It is better to empty the cabinet floor and periodically wipe it with a damp cloth.

Cleaning upholstered furniture, indoor plants, wallpaper, ceilings and blinds

It is best to keep books behind glass; this will keep them clean for a long time. It is quite convenient to clean books using a vacuum cleaner and a special long-bristled brush. After that, wipe the surface of the books and shelves with a damp cloth.

It is advisable to clean upholstered furniture once a month. To do this, you need to wet a large cloth or sheet, place it on a piece of furniture and whip it out As a result, all the dust will settle on the fabric. After this, you need to vacuum the furniture and steam it with an iron.

Indoor plants also need to be cleaned of dust. To do this, take a damp sponge and wipe those plants that have large, wide leaves. Indoor plants with small leaves are best washed in the shower..

Almost all modern wallpaper can be wet cleaned. But before doing this, you need to vacuum the wallpaper and check in a small area to see if its texture has deteriorated.

Maintaining optimal humidity and temperature levels in the home

To reduce the amount of dust in your home it is important to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels. If the humidity is low, dust will be constantly in the air, and high temperature will promote the reproduction of harmful microorganisms. The best thing to do in such a case is to buy special devices for air purification and humidification. If there is no such possibility, then in winter you can put wet rags on the radiators or heater, and in summer you will have to moisten the air all the time with a sprayer.

Ventilate the room more often. Circulating air will prevent dust from settling on surfaces and lingering in one place, and in addition, this way you can restore the necessary temperature in the house. Grow houseplants, they help control dust. Do not store unnecessary old things, they are dust collectors. Better to give them to those who really need them.

06 Can parquet flooring be cleaned?

To prolong the life of parquet and save yourself from having to spend time and effort on repairs can be only one way - you need to follow the rules of its use. If you have hardwood flooring in your space, the following should not be overlooked:

    1. Dry clean your parquet floor at least once a week. A soft broom or a vacuum cleaner will do the trick.

    2. Parquet and water are not compatible, so forget about wet cleaning. Only if the parquet has a water-repellent finish can you afford to go over the floor with a slightly damp cloth. But the rag should be damp just enough so that you can pick up dust with it, no more. Even moisture-protected parquet cannot withstand puddles of water on the floor.

3 If there is a puddle on the parquet, try to remove it as soon as possible and make sure it doesn't happen again. Because a few such water procedures are enough for the parquet to swell and lose its original appearance. And then you can no longer avoid hours spent on repairing and restoring the flooring.

May your parquet always give warmth and enjoy its quality for many years! And HomeCleaning can help you keep your parquet in pristine condition with the most modern and environmentally friendly parquet care products.
